Share via Email Maggie Gyllenhaal in Secretary: Steven Shainberg's kinky two-hander restores its potency and even prestige. In its gamey way, Shainberg reintroduces the intimacy and concubinage always inherent in the idea of a secretary; to have a secretary is itself to have a secret. His film - co-adapted by Shainberg and Erin Cressida Wilson from a short story by Mary Gaitskill - provides a satire, albeit of an ambiguous and frankly pornographic kind, on political correctness, on the power relations of modern work and the sexualisation of the office environment in which the prosperous western salaryman class spends more and more of its time. Those of a sensitive disposition should stop reading right now.
And some very, very naughty words. Friday, June 18, Secretary. First, a quick link: I'm not going to write a full entry on it, because other bloggers have said a lot already and it's very self-evident why this is fucked.
This is the first scene and we don't really know what's going on as we see her pick up some paper and a cup of coffee and go into an office where she closes the door and the scene ends there. Lee shows some cleavage in a bridesmaid dress. As Lee prepares to burn herself with a hot tea kettle, we see a great deal of her inner thigh where she's going to burn herself. Edward asks Lee if she's pregnant or intends on getting pregnant she says she isn't.
